Okay, sorry to start off with a History lesson.

Banana Grafeeks is a freelance design studio located in Honolulu, Hawaii; operating out of a happy home complete with two lovely guinea pigs named Hazel and Cocoa. My name is Hannah, a.k.a Hanasaurusrex. I've loved my job for almost a decade now, but that doesn't mean I know what I am doing... well, at least not all of the time. For the most part I do, know what I am doing. How else could I have been doing it all this time, right?

I am a graphic designer. I am not a web designer; I do not do code. I am also a sketcher, a painter, a sprayer, a crafter, a gluer, a doodler, a cook, and a big time coffee drinker.

Someday, when I finally decide what I want to design for myself, my real website will be finished and this blog will join it hand in hand. Until then, if you feel like you must see the page parked at the BG url... you can click on the Banana Grafeeks link below.

Since this is a new blog, you may find a more comprehensive portfolio of current works in my Behance portfolio, link listed after the jump. I've always wanted to say that :D

the kaleidoscope project

Starting back in August this year, Banana Grafeeks was asked to create a series of fliers for the Honolulu hot spot, Thirtynine Hotel. The challenge, something tonal in color to change each month with a consistent theme.

The series promotes their ongoing Tuesday night Kaleidoscope party; a party highlighting Hawaii’s awesome local underground music scene. And let me tell you… if you think the only good music in Hawaii is Jack Johnson or Pepper; you’d be in for a more than pleasant surprise if the mainland record wigs would ever put up an ear over here, but i digress…

Of course we accepted; We love 39!

The results…

new online portfolio!

Well, in recent months I’ve been in the market looking to find a portfolio site to be home to my work while I rebuild the Banana Grafeeks website… I had been offered an invitaiton to join TAXI at a discounted rate for the year, and decided it could work for me… but after using it for a few months I have to admit that it’s upscale design look leaves something to be desired in the communication department.

Rather than feeling like they are getting my work viewed by the masses, as promised, I’ve begun to feel like it’s a site more geared towards photographers and industry news.

So I kept looking. Did I find something? You better Behance it!

behance peek

Behance is FREE portfolio site… and blows it’s competition out of the water! (In this artist’s humble opinion :) Add the clean line and thoughtful design interface I crave with the bonus of having more control over my portfolio and I’m impressed. Projects are set up as modules you customize, and you can upload as many projects as you want (projects can include images, mp3’s, video and text). Features like statisics and watch groups, comments, messages, and transmissions make it fun to communicate and encourage the community to grow. There’s even a ‘inner circle’ feature that can function as you own mini network of like minded peers… all these site features allow one to interact with the professionals it brings together productively. Round it out with public ‘Circles’, a place for ‘Tip Exchange’, and the ‘JobList’ and you’re looking at a positively positive profile experience! .. and too many P’s, I love it!

It’s a beta version at present, but if you are a creative professional or even magician, you can sign up for an invitation to join… take a look at My portfolio for Banana Grafeeks, it’s set up in “frame” view, which is a stripped down, ad free version that I can send to my clients… To see how the network profile views, click on the ‘network profile’ link in the bottom left hand corner.

Hard work really does pay off.  For both Banana Grafeeks and Busekrus, their sophomoric album, Welkin, is pride and joy personified. p.s. Welkin means ‘the vault of the sky’, which is where these boys are headed!  Pick one up!
